West Lodge Park Overview

First Impressions

You know what struck me first about West Lodge Park? It’s this gorgeous country house hotel that somehow manages to feel both grand and welcoming at the same time. Sitting on 35 acres of parkland in Barnet, it’s one of those places where you pull up the drive and immediately think — okay, this is going to be good. The building itself has this lovely historic charm, but it’s been updated thoughtfully so you’re not dealing with creaky floors or dodgy plumbing.

Location That Actually Works

Here’s the thing about the location — it’s brilliant in a way that’s not immediately obvious. You’re technically in North London, but it feels like proper countryside. Cockfosters tube station is just a few minutes away, which means you can be in central London in about 30 minutes, but honestly, you might not want to leave. The area around Trent Park is perfect for morning walks, and I mean proper walks through ancient woodland, not just a stroll around the block. Couples absolutely love it here, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about having all that green space to yourselves.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was in the main house, and the bed was genuinely one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in at a four-star hotel. I’m usually a light sleeper, but something about the combination of the quiet setting and those really good mattresses meant I slept like a baby. The rooms vary quite a bit — some are more traditional with period features, others are more contemporary, but they’re all properly comfortable. What I appreciated was the attention to detail, like decent lighting for reading and enough parking space that you’re not circling around looking for a spot.

Breakfast Worth Getting Up For

I’ll be honest — hotel breakfast can be hit or miss, but they’ve really got it sorted here. The full English is properly done (none of that sad, lukewarm buffet nonsense), and they actually cater well to different dietary needs. I watched them make fresh vegan options that looked genuinely appetizing, not like an afterthought. The restaurant overlooks the gardens, so you’re eating while looking out at deer wandering across the lawn, which is rather lovely first thing in the morning.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how many people come back — and I mean, come back repeatedly. That tells you something, doesn’t it? It’s the kind of hotel where the staff remember your name, where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re in some corporate chain. The grounds are genuinely beautiful for a wander, especially in the evening when the light hits the old trees just right. Plus, having free private parking in this part of London is actually a bigger deal than you might think — no stress about meters or permits, just pull up and you’re sorted.

Reviews of West Lodge Park

  • Chris from Austria (9/10)

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely old country hotel set in a large park in a superb location in north London. We particularly appreciated the well-kept grounds with arboretum, the helpful, friendly staff who ensured a relaxed atmosphere, and the excellent breakfast.

  • Dimitrios from Greece (8/10)

We only had breakfast once at the hotel. Overall ok but could have more variety in cheese and bread. The hotel is beautiful and the surroundings are amazing and well maintained. For the price you pay you get a beautiful spacious room in a very British historic estate. Staff are very friendly.

  • Justin from United Kingdom (8/10)

All the staff were friendly and helpful.
As I checked out and put my bags in my car I decided to have 5 minutes looking at the grounds. Just to take a breath before a work day with its stress meetings and then a journey back north. A guy said good morning to me and he turned out to be the head gardener. We had a chat about the history of ownership the grounds and in particular the trees etc. and it was just engaging, interesting and just set up the day and made me smile. Thank you.
    I will be booking again
