The Chapter – Griffin House Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to The Chapter – Griffin House Hotel on Connaught Street, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t try too hard — the kind of hotel where you can tell they’ve put thought into the details without going overboard. The building itself has character, and honestly, that matters more than you might think when you’re staying somewhere for a few days.

Location That Actually Makes Sense

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re in Westminster Borough, which means you’re properly central without being stuck in tourist chaos. Connaught Street runs parallel to Hyde Park, so you’ve got green space right there when you need to escape the city buzz. The Marble Arch tube station is maybe a five-minute walk, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere in London without the hassle. I mean, couples rate this spot 9.2 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but cleverly designed — you know how some London hotels feel like they’re trying to squeeze you into a shoebox? This wasn’t that. The bed was comfortable (actually comfortable, not just hotel-brochure comfortable), and there was enough space to properly unpack without feeling cramped. The bathroom was modern and well-maintained, which honestly can make or break a stay at this price point.

Neighborhood Vibes

What really sold me on this place was stepping outside and realizing I was in a proper London neighborhood, not just a tourist zone. There’s a great little restaurant called The Grazing Goat just around the corner — perfect for when you can’t be bothered to venture far for dinner. The area feels residential but with enough cafes and shops that you’re never stuck for options. Plus, being this close to Hyde Park means you can actually go for morning runs or evening walks without planning your whole day around it.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t going to be the fanciest place you’ve ever stayed, but it gets the fundamentals right. The staff are genuinely helpful without being overly formal, the location score of 9.0 isn’t just marketing fluff — it’s actually that good — and you’re getting solid value for money in a city where that’s increasingly rare. If you’re the type of traveler who wants a comfortable base to explore from rather than a hotel you’ll spend all day in, this place makes perfect sense. The fact that it consistently works well for couples tells you something about the atmosphere — it’s relaxed enough to feel like a retreat but connected enough that you’re never far from whatever London has to offer.

Hotel in London reservations climb before fashion weeks when townhouse lobbies fill with designers.

  • Lorraine from Ireland (8/10)

Really lovely small hotel, great location in Connought Village. Much prefer to stay in the London villages rather than by Picodilly or centre.
If you move around Oxford St, it is a different world & near Hyde Park (stables) & Tyburn Abbey (Catholic worship). Plus the food, the middle Eastern cuisine amazing. Green Valley is one if my favourite shops, real community not some overpriced posh place.
The last time I visited my Mom was quite unwell & when I had no phone carrier one of the gentleman staff let me phone Ireland. She has died since so this was to see friends & visit her elder sister.. An emotional trip made easier by the civility of all the staff. Some of the staff were there on my last trip, a reflection in how they are treated by their employers, quite important. Best wishes, Lorraine
