Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to the Park Avenue Bayswater Inn, I wasn’t sure what to expect – you know how these converted Georgian terraces can be hit or miss. But stepping into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the place. It’s got that polished but not stuffy vibe that’s surprisingly hard to find in this part of London.
The location is what really sold me though. I mean, you’re literally on Princes Square, which sounds fancy but it’s actually this quiet little pocket that most tourists never stumble across. You’ve got Hyde Park right there – and I’m talking a proper two-minute walk, not the “near Hyde Park” nonsense you see in half the hotel descriptions around here. What’s brilliant is you can cut through the park to get to Oxford Street (saves you a fortune on tube fares), but when you come back in the evening, you’re away from all that chaos. The Bayswater Road can get pretty mental with traffic, but tucked back on the square, it’s surprisingly peaceful. Well, except for the occasional delivery truck in the morning, but that’s London for you.
The rooms themselves – look, this is a 4-star place with a 7.2 rating, so set your expectations accordingly. They’re clean, comfortable, properly sized for London standards (which means you won’t be climbing over your suitcase to get to the bathroom), and the beds are actually decent. I’ve stayed in supposed luxury hotels where I’ve slept worse, honestly. The staff seem to know what they’re doing too, which makes a difference when you’re dealing with early check-ins or need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the tourist traps. One thing I appreciated – they don’t try to oversell what they are. It’s a solid, reliable base in an expensive city, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. You’re five minutes from Paddington if you’re catching a train, walking distance to Little Venice if you fancy a quieter canal-side pint, and close enough to the action without being in the thick of it. For the price point in this area, you could do a lot worse.
