Alexandra Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Alexandra Hotel on Sussex Gardens, you’ll notice it’s one of those classic Victorian townhouse conversions that London does so well. The white facade blends seamlessly with the neighboring buildings, and honestly, that’s part of its charm — it feels like you’re staying in a proper London neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. The entrance is modest but welcoming, and the staff actually seem to remember your name after the first day.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a three-minute walk from Paddington Station, which means the Heathrow Express is right there when you need it. But more importantly, you can stroll to Hyde Park in about five minutes, and I mean the real entrance near Speaker’s Corner, not some side gate. The area around Sussex Gardens has that lived-in London feel with proper pubs (The Fountains Abbey is just around the corner) and those little corner shops where you can grab milk at midnight. Couples seem to get this location thing — they’ve rated it 9.1, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
Look, this is a three-star hotel, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or Egyptian cotton sheets. What you get is a clean, comfortable room that feels more like staying at a well-kept B&B than a corporate chain. The beds are actually decent — I slept well, which isn’t always a given in London hotels at this price point. The windows open properly (thank goodness), and if you’re lucky enough to get a front-facing room, you’ll have a nice view of the garden square across the street.
Practical Perks
One thing that surprised me — they have private parking available, which is basically gold dust in central London. I mean, you’ll pay for it, but just having the option is huge if you’re driving in. The WiFi works throughout the building, and there’s a small breakfast area where you can grab coffee and toast in the morning. It’s nothing fancy, but it does the job and saves you from hunting down an overpriced café before you’ve had your first cup of coffee.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. You’re paying for location and comfort, not fancy amenities or a rooftop bar. The staff are genuinely helpful — they’ll print your boarding passes, recommend proper local spots (not just the tourist traps), and actually seem to care that you have a good stay. For the price point in this part of London, especially with Paddington so close and Hyde Park practically on your doorstep, it’s honestly hard to beat. Just come expecting a solid, no-nonsense London base that’ll serve you well.
Exploring London drifts through historic pubs, modern galleries, and dusk-lit bridges arching over the Thames.

Location was great, close to Paddington Station for access everywhere, Hyde Park, we walked all over from here. More than adequate breakfast to fuel up for the day. Friendly and helpful staff, who even popped my croissant into the microwave.

The location is very good. At the reception, the middle aged receptionist was kind and helpful ( but not the young one). I did like the breakfast which was rich.
