Hotel Description
So I stumbled upon Gilbert accommodations on Gilbert Street last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve got an insider secret. You know how Westminster can be absolutely mental with tourists – well, this little apartment gem sits right in the thick of it, but somehow manages to feel like your own private corner of Mayfair.
The building itself is classic London townhouse gorgeous, and Apartment B has this perfectly lived-in elegance that actually makes sense. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Bond Street tube (which, let’s be real, is a godsend when you’re dragging luggage), but the street itself stays surprisingly quiet. The neighbors seem to be a mix of long-time residents and other short-term guests, so there’s this nice balance – no rowdy bachelor parties, but not stuffy either. What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to grab groceries from the Waitrose around the corner, and the coffee machine is one of those proper ones that doesn’t taste like dishwater. The bed is seriously comfortable too – I’m usually a light sleeper but slept like a rock every night.
Location-wise, you’re spoiled for choice without even trying. Selfridges is basically next door if you’re into shopping, and if you walk five minutes toward Oxford Circus, you’ll hit all the usual spots. But here’s what I really loved – you can duck down these little side streets and find proper pubs that haven’t been completely overrun yet. The Punchbowl on Farm Street became my regular spot for a quiet pint. And honestly, being this close to Hyde Park Corner means you can actually escape the crowds when central London gets overwhelming, which it definitely will. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – none of that hotel lobby waiting around nonsense. They sent clear instructions beforehand, and everything just worked. My only tiny complaint? The wifi occasionally got spotty during peak hours, but that might’ve been a blessing in disguise since I actually explored more instead of doom-scrolling. Oh, and if you’re driving, forget about it – but you’re in zone 1 London, so why would you? The tube connections from here get you anywhere you need to go, and night buses run regularly if you’re out late in Soho or wherever. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a temporary local rather than just another tourist, which is exactly what you want when you’re paying five-star prices in this part of town.
